Psalm 73: 25-26
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
In 2008 that is the very verse Alyssa and I stumbled upon in Costa Rica. We both looked at each other and agreed that the psalmist had such a great point. We knew at one point in time our bodies would fail us, but our God never would. I just didn't think that 3 years later, her body would fail her. This has been one long almost month! I spend many nights awake, many hours glued to my phone waiting for updates. Many prayers begging God to give her a new liver. Many prayers prayed with unshakable faith that only comes through Him. This verse just keeps ringing in my head.
I finally got to see Alyssa this past weekend. It was perfect timing is what we were told. She was having a bad couple of days but was regaining back some strength. It was so refreshing. She still laughs and jokes around, but you can see she is weak. We actually even got to go out to get smoothies and eat at Olive Garden. We know that God is so good in healing her, and providing her with a new liver, but she is still trying to piece everything together. It is so easy from the outside to look in and Praise God, it is harder when you go through it, but she is, she is praising God. She wants to start thanking God for her new liver, and to me that is AWESOME! Listening to her family talk about the long waits in hospital waiting rooms, the confusion, the fear, and the peace is emotionally overwhelming. The reality is Alyssa was so close to death, many doubted she would live, but she is alive. She is recovering. And God is not finished with her yet. God knew that through this whole thing with Alyssa He could reach so many people. She showed Kuhne and I countless cards with people saying they are praying and talking about how hearing about Alyssa's condition strengthened their faith as they went to the throne. Many cards came from people she never met before. Alyssa also shared how a very dear family member who she has been praying for, for so long stopped being mad at God and turned towards Him in the time of uncertainty . I am so awh struck of the power of God. How He can take such a serious scary condition and turn it into Praise!
